Tesla Roadster 2027: The Latest on Performance, Range, and Features

The first Tesla Roadster is the car that established the position of the all-electric car manufacturer on the market. Nonetheless, people who bought Model S or Model X might not be acquainted with this previous model. The roadster was scheduled to return in 2021, but the release was postponed. According to Tesla, the second Roadster has more rear seat, longer range, and an improved performance than the previous model. When the prototype Roadster was released back in 2017, the CEO Elon Musk claimed that this car will accelerate to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds and has maximum speed of 250 mph, and the auto lovers are waiting and hoping that the mentioned characteristics are to be proven upon the delivery of the car. However, the latest report that the Roadster is able to drive at 60 mph in less than a second sounds much more unrealistic.

What’s New?

The Roadster’s name will be resurrected by the company’s first model in 2008 and will become a new addition to the Tesla lineup when it is in production. tesla roadster

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

The Roadster’s electric powertrain is not yet well known, but is likely to be standard on all models. Tesla’s mainstream range of EVs has a front and rear electric motor to power all four wheels, so it makes sense that it would follow suit with the Roadster. Tesla could also be developing a special setup just for the Roadster that could include as many as four electric motors, with one driving each wheel.

0–60-MPH Times

During unveiling of the new Tesla Roadster concept in November 2017, Musk railed some pie-in-the-sky performance numbers for this car: 60-mph time just 1.9 seconds, top speed in excess of 250 mph and a quarter-mile time of only 8.8 seconds. That’s bad enough, but the company now says it can achieve a 60 mph time of less than a second. We’ll see. tesla roadster

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The 200 kWh battery is supposed to deliver up to 620 miles of range, though, of course, this figure will only be attainable in very light duty usage, and clocking out for some flat out hot laps will drastically reduce the mileage figure. tesla roadster

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe

The EPA hasn’t released its ratings for the Roadster’s fuel economy, but those details are sure to emerge closer to the car’s on-sale date. Hopefully, we will get to test the new Roadster! We will test it here if/when we do, against our 75-mph highway test.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

So the Roadster, at this point, is only a concept, and, in general, concepts undergo a monumental transformation as they progress to production. The removable glass panel roof as depicted can be stowed in the trunk of the Roadster concept. The Roadster is four-seater, though the back seats look more like they might be too short for adults, with its dramatically angled roofline. Beyond that, we’re expecting to see the same minimalist interior aesthetic as seen at Tesla that we know and love.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Consisting of a large touch screen that stretches from the top to the center console with a cubby underneath it for storage, the concept’s design features a large touch screen. Unfortunately, the Roadster doesn’t have the Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or Amazon Alexa integration that any of Tesla’s models have; we’d not expect it to change. The infotainment system in the Model 3 sedan is an example of what they’ll be able to expect from the Roadster, so don’t look for AM radio or SiriusXM in this car. It’s safe to assume Tesla will offer on-board Wi-Fi, a Spotify player, and probably a slew of graphical entertainment apps like Netflix, Hulu and YouTube for the driver to play with while their vehicle is parked and plugged in. tesla roadster

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

  • Since the Roadster is still only a concept, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) have not had the chance to perform crash tests. Tesla is expected to include all their most up-to-the-minute driver assistance features on the roadster, including their famed semi-autonomous Autopilot driving system. These are key safety features:
  • Standard AEB with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist.
  • Available semi-autonomous driving mode on available adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

  • The Roadster is expected to have the same standard warranty package as all of the other Tesla vehicles, namely an eight-year warranty on the electric motors and battery pack. The Tesla will not likely be sold with a complimentary auto schedule maintenance plan as is the case with competitors like the Audi R8 or the Jaguar F-type.
  • Four Year / 50,000 mile limited warranty.
  • The warranty for the powertrain is 8 years, no matter how many miles.
  • No scheduled maintenance and no freebies. No free scheduled maintenance.
